- 680 — Hexham Bus Station to Bellingham via Chollerford (for Chesters Roman Fort)
- 122 (formerly AD122) — Hadrian's Wall Country Bus — runs year-round between Hexham Bus Station and Haltwhistle Rail Station, calling at Chesters Roman Fort, Housesteads, Once Brewed, Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. A seasonal daily service; reduced timetable outside peak season.

Hexham is well connected by road, with the town sitting just off the main east–west route through Northumberland.
- A69 — the main route connecting Hexham to Newcastle upon Tyne (around 21 miles east) and Carlisle (around 37 miles west)
- A68 — runs north–south through Corbridge, linking to Consett and County Durham to the south, and Otterburn and the Scottish border to the north
- A695 — an alternative, more local route running parallel to the A69 through Prudhoe and Wylam towards Newcastle
- B6318 / B6305 — the scenic "Military Road," running closest to Hadrian's Wall and the best route for visiting the central Wall attractions by car
