Hexham Farmers Market | Dates, Stalls & What to Expect

Jump to: Market Dates · About the Market · Who You'll Find There · Becoming a Stallholder · Find It.

Twice a month, Hexham's Market Place fills up with local food producers rather than the usual Tuesday traders. Hexham Farmers Market is independently run and has been going for 27 years. This page is Hexham Focus's own guide to it, not an official market page, so always check the market's own website below for anything time-sensitive.

Market Dates

Held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, 9 am to 1:30 pm. December dates sometimes run later to line up with the town's Christmas Market.

  • Saturday 28th November 2026, 9am–1:30pm
  • Saturday 12th December 2026, 9am–1:30pm (may run later for the Christmas Market)

About the Market

What sets this apart from a normal market stall is the 50-mile sourcing rule — every trader has to have made or grown what they're selling themselves, within that radius of Hexham. Practically, that means you're buying meat from the person who raised it and veg from the person who grew it, not an intermediary. There's usually a bit of live music too, and it's as much a social morning out as a shopping trip.

Because most stallholders are small producers or working farms, don't be surprised if the odd one is missing some months — calving and harvest seasons take priority over market days.

Who You'll Find There

Roughly 25 producers attend regularly, spanning Northumberland, County Durham, Cumbria, and the wider North East. A snapshot of who's typically there:

  • Meat and charcuterie from small farms in Cumbria and Gateshead
  • Artisan sourdough and baked goods from Alnwick and the Tyne Valley
  • Cheese and dairy from Ayrshire herds near the Solway Plain
  • Honey, mead, jams and chutneys from Northumberland and Newcastle producers
  • A small Bellingham brewery with seasonal ales
  • Handmade soap, timber crafts, and nursery-grown plants
  • A rotating cast of guest stallholders trying out everything from Scotch eggs to Greek bakes

For the full, up-to-date list of who's attending and their individual stories, the market's own producers page is the best source.

Interested in Becoming a Stallholder?

New producers can trial the market as guests before applying properly. The market keeps a close eye on not overloading any one product category, and stallholders are expected to make what they sell themselves rather than reselling. Full details and the application process are on the market's own site.
